Shearwater Research announced that its Jetpack for Avelo diving has received CE certification and can be sold in Europe.

Shearwater Research has announced that the Shearwater Jetpack, designed specifically for the Avelo diving system, has received CE certification, meaning the equipment is approved for sale in the European market.

Unlike the cylinder and buoyancy compensator used by traditional divers, the Avelo system controls buoyancy by adding water to or removing water from a dedicated Hydrotank cylinder, while the Jetpack carries the cylinder and houses a battery-driven pump. Avelo developed the original equipment and training system, and after the two companies announced their partnership in November 2024, Shearwater became the lead manufacturer of the Jetpack. As part of CE certification, the Jetpack has been certified to EN 250, the European standard for open-circuit scuba. This certification is particularly significant because the Jetpack has a built-in air-integrated transmitter that can send cylinder pressure information to compatible Shearwater dive computers running Avelo mode.

Jason Leggatt, CEO of Shearwater Research, said: "Achieving CE certification is an important milestone for the Shearwater Jetpack and for Avelo diving. Europe has a long and important history in diving, and we are pleased to be able to offer the Jetpack to divers, instructors, dive centres and retailers in Europe." Aviad Cahana, CEO of Avelo Labs, said: "Avelo was designed to reduce the weight of scuba equipment and provide a new way to control buoyancy, and we have always focused on developing the training and education needed to support that approach. With Shearwater leading Jetpack manufacturing and CE certification now in place, we have an important opportunity to bring Avelo to more European divers." Shearwater says the Jetpack marks a further expansion of the company's role in scuba equipment, beyond dive computers and rebreather electronics. Leggatt added: "Bringing innovative equipment into a regulated market requires a firm commitment to engineering, manufacturing and quality. Completing the CE certification process, including EN 250 compliance, is an important achievement for the Jetpack and allows us to bring it to a wider group of divers." In addition, Avelo launched the Avelo Diver entry-level course in August 2026, aimed at people with no diving experience. According to the announcement, the course meets the ISO 24801-2 autonomous diver training standard, and graduates may dive with a buddy without direct professional supervision, in conditions comparable to those of their training environment, to a maximum depth of 18 metres (60 feet). More information is available from Shearwater and Avelo.
